PARK
VIEW AT SOUTH PANTOPS WELCOMES FIRST RESIDENTS
Baltimore, MD—The Shelter Group’s newest affordable community
designed specifically for seniors, Park View at South Pantops in Charlottesville,
VA, welcomed its first group of residents. Among the first to move
in was Frances Hawkins, mother of Terry Hawkins, the long-time sheriff
of Albemarle County, VA. The Hawkins are currently sharing their enthusiasm
for Park View at South Pantops on a TV commercial running in the local
market.
Nestled on the banks of the Rivanna River yet just minutes from
the professional offices, grocery stores, and retail shops along
Rt. 250, Park View at South Pantops features a mix of one- and two-bedroom
apartments, each with a fully equipped kitchen, individually control
heat and air conditioning, and generous floor plans with spacious,
airy rooms. The building has many senior-friendly safety features
thorough out including emergency pull cords, video-controlled access,
and strategically located grab bars.
Residents have use of a community room with a warming kitchen
for activities and special events, a library with computer stations,
a multi-media room, a beauty/barber salon, an exercise room, a game
room, a sitting porch and a landscaped patio.
Residents stay physically active and mentally engaged by taking
advantage of a full range of resident services, activities, outings,
and special programs that help support successful aging. These programs,
as well as the community’s private van, are provided and arranged
through the community’s partner, the Jefferson Area Board
of Aging (JABA).
The Shelter Group is a nationally recognized pioneer in the senior
affordable housing market. The company’s first such community
was completed 17 years ago. Since then it has built 27 additional
senior affordable communities. These communities are located in
Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia.
“Shelter has learned through direct experience what seniors
want in the way of amenities, building design and services; all
of which, in a Park View, work together to support successful aging.
That’s why I’m so enthusiastic about Park View at South
Pantops,” says Susan Coiner Rooke, Property Manager.
Park View at South Pantops is the company’s first Park View
in Virginia but, according to a company spokesperson, it is actively
looking for other opportunities in the Commonwealth. Seniors have
reacted enthusiastically to the availability of affordable housing
in this market. Having just opened, the community is already more
than 25% leased.
