Shelter STAR – Darcel
Cox
When Darcel joined Shelter in July, 2002, she didn’t expect
to become our Queen of Renovations but she has certainly earned the crown. With less than two years of experience as a
Leasing Consultant, Darcel took on the role of Property Manager with our
College Parkway site. She coordinated
the rehab of the community to give it a fresh look, ensuring that residents
weren’t disrupted by the work. When it
was completed she stepped up to a more challenging assignment as Property
Manager at Highland Commons during their renovation. Residents had to move out of their apartments
then back in again to allow for a complete overhaul of the building. Darcel’s calm demeanor and soothing
reassurance made this project an enormous success with 100% of the residents
choosing to stay with the community.
Always looking for a new challenge, Darcel is now Senior
Property Manager of Monarch Mills in Columbia, MD. With a mix of market rate and affordable
units, a variety of garden and midrise styles making up 269 apartments plus a
standalone clubhouse, at least one and in some cases two moves for residents
before landing in their ultimate apartment, funding from a variety of public
sources coupled with local, state and even national attention shining a
spotlight on this innovative project, Monarch Mills is perhaps our most complex
rehab ever and Darcel, our Queen of Renovations, is just the right person to lead
the challenge.
Shelter STARs –
Project Management Team
Under the leadership of Alan Siegfried, our Project
Management Team has led the way in developing award winning communities. Together, this group has a hand in every
phase of development in every community that Shelter builds. Starting with an idea, they are involved
with the design of each unique community from the siting and style of the
building down to the placement of every lamp, chair and picture. Drawing on their combined
84 years of real estate experience, they learn from each new project, ensuring
that the next is even more fabulous than the last. Their passion, attention to thoughtful
details and understanding of the needs and desires of our prospective
residents has helped this team win award after award for design, construction
and sustainability. Individually,
they’re stars. Together, they’re a super
star team!
