Service, community partnerships and our long-standing tradition of giving back through volunteerism and corporate initiatives ensure that we build, work, live and play in thriving, vibrant communities.
Corporate & Community Initiatives
The Shelter Service Committee identifies and provides opportunities for associates in the corporate office to volunteer time in the community at area non-profit agencies. Initiatives include meal service at My Sister’s Place Women’s Center, assistance to families in need through the United Way’s “Adopt-A-Family” campaign, rehabilitating houses in partnership with the Park School and Habitat for Humanity and food drives for Paul’s Place.
The Shelter Group is also a leading area participant in the United Way of Central Maryland campaign. One of only five companies out of more than 650 in Central Maryland that has continued to increase participation and donations over the last 5 years, The Shelter Group encourages associates to become involved through awareness and volunteerism campaigns.
As part of a long-standing tradition of giving back The Shelter Group supports and encourages volunteer efforts at each of our communities. From scholarship programs to support of The Alzheimer’s Association and its annual Memory Walk, each community identifies local and national causes to support. Residents and associates volunteer with Meals on Wheels deliveries, local fire departments are honored with annual “Hoagies for Heroes” luncheons, food drives provide needed donations to food banks – in every Shelter Group community, people are actively involved in giving back.
Service Partnerships
The Shelter Group creates custom programs to enhance the lives of our residents, identify opportunities and provide access to a wide variety of services. Programs and activities include health and wellness offerings, youth and adult education, computers and internet training and recreation and volunteerism opportunities.
Our resident services span a broad spectrum including after-school programs and summer camps, health and wellness fairs and exercise classes, youth and adult education, computer training and financial management seminars, group trips to cultural events, recreation and volunteerism opportunities and much more.
We have developed long-lasting relationships with community leaders and service providers including financial partners, non-profit groups and local and government agencies. Our partners include The 4H Club, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, The Annie E. Casey Foundation, Open Doors Career Center and many others, allowing us to make a full range of vital services available to our residents.
